Car hire at Sofia Airport
Want to drive yourself? Choose where you pick up the car and the dates below, and you will see the free cars with the final price for the whole rental before you confirm anything. Prefer to be driven? We do that every day.
Where you can pick up the car
- Airports: Sofia (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2), Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas.
- Ski resorts: Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo.
- Cities: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and other larger towns.
- Black Sea: Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sozopol, Golden Sands and Albena.
You can return the car at a different place. Type it in the second field; if there is a one-way fee, it is already in the price you see.
How booking works
- Type the airport, town or resort and pick it from the list.
- Choose the return place, or leave it the same.
- Choose your dates and press See available cars.
- Compare the cars, the price for your dates and the conditions for mileage, insurance and deposit, then finish the booking.
What you need
- A valid driving licence.
- A passport or ID card.
- A credit or debit card for the deposit.
- Minimum age is usually 21; for some car classes 23 or 25.
The exact conditions for the car you choose are shown before you confirm. Read them once: the deposit, what the insurance covers and any mileage limit.
Driving in Bulgaria: a few practical notes
- Right-hand traffic. Bulgaria drives on the right, and most hire cars are manual unless you choose an automatic.
- Vignette. Motorways and main roads need an electronic vignette. Ask at pick-up whether the car already has one.
- Winter. For Bansko, Borovets or Pamporovo between December and March, ask for winter tyres and check the forecast. Some days chains may be needed on the mountain roads.
- Parking. Central Sofia and Plovdiv have paid parking zones, usually paid by SMS or in an app.
Hire car or private taxi?
A hire car makes sense when you stay several days and travel between towns, or go to places without regular transport. A private taxi is usually easier when:
- you only need the airport run, for example to your ski hotel and back;
- you land late after a long flight and do not want to drive unknown roads at night;
- you travel with children: child seats are free with us;
- you carry skis and boards and do not want to think about deposit, fuel and parking.
Our prices are per car, not per person: Sofia Airport to Borovets from 66 EUR, to Bansko from 95 EUR and to Plovdiv from 95 EUR. If your flight is late, the driver waits at the airport at no extra cost. See all routes on the pricing page.

What do I need to hire a car in Bulgaria?

Is a hire car a good idea for a ski week in Bansko or Borovets?
