Driver opening the door of a transfer car at Sofia Airport

Chepelare does not appear on our standard price list, so every trip there is quoted individually. The figure we confirm covers the vehicle, the driver and your luggage for the whole journey. It does not grow with each extra skier, and it does not change on the day.

Why UK skiers choose Chepelare

Chepelare is a small Rhodope town on the main road to Pamporovo, with its own ski area on the slopes of Mechi Chal. For British families and groups it is often a quieter and more affordable place to sleep: guesthouses and hotels in the town tend to cost less than rooms in the resort itself, and the evenings are calmer. Many people who stay here ski in Chepelare on some days and drive up to Pamporovo on others.

Because the two places sit on the same road, the transfer is easy to adapt. We can take you straight to a hotel in Chepelare, carry on to Pamporovo, which is only about 10 to 12 km further uphill, or drop part of the group in each.

The route from Sofia Airport to Chepelare

The journey has a fast half and a slow half. From the airport the car joins the Trakia motorway and heads south-east to Plovdiv, which is the straightforward part of the trip. Past Plovdiv the driver turns south to Asenovgrad, where the Rhodopes begin.

From Asenovgrad the road follows the narrow gorge of the Chaya river into the mountains, winding past Bachkovo Monastery and climbing steadily towards Chepelare. Altogether it is about 220 km, and on a dry day it usually takes about 3 h to 3 h 30 min. The bends after Asenovgrad are where most of that time goes, so the drive feels longer than the distance suggests.

Driving the Rhodopes in winter

Snow is normal in Chepelare from December onwards, and the mountain stretch is the part that changes with the weather. During the winter season our cars are fitted with winter tyres, as Bulgarian rules require, and the driver adjusts the pace to the conditions rather than to a timetable. After a heavy snowfall the climb simply takes longer. When you book, our coordinator looks at your arrival time and the forecast and tells you honestly when to expect to reach the hotel.

Ski bags and the right vehicle

The size of the car depends on your kit as much as on the number of people. List every ski or snowboard bag, boot bag and suitcase when you book, and we match the vehicle to the load so that everything travels in one trip.

  • Sedan / Estate: a good fit for a couple with skis.
  • Minivan, long base: the right choice for a family of four with ski gear, or up to six adults.
  • Minibus, long base: up to eight skiers and their bags, at one price for the vehicle.

Travelling as a club or a larger party? Have a look at ski group transfers. Planning to rent skis in Chepelare instead of flying with them? Mention it, as less luggage may mean a smaller vehicle and a lower quote.

Meeting your driver at Sofia Airport

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight uses, Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, holding a sign with your name. Give us the flight number and we follow the arrival, so a late landing does not leave you stranded; when the delay is caused by your flight, waiting at the airport is free. You receive the driver’s details on WhatsApp or Viber before you land, and child seats are fitted free of charge if you tell us the children’s ages.

Getting back for your flight home

The return is the leg people tend to underestimate. With a three-hour mountain and motorway drive in front of you, plus time to check in for a flight to London, Manchester or another UK airport, the pickup from Chepelare is usually in the morning for an afternoon departure. Send us both flights at once and our coordinator proposes a pickup time with a sensible margin for the Rhodope road. If heavy snow is forecast for your last day, we would rather move the pickup earlier than let you rush at the airport.

How do I book?

Send us the name of your hotel or guesthouse in Chepelare, both flight numbers, the number of adults and children, and your ski bags. You can reach us by phone on +359 897 227 771, on WhatsApp, in the chat window or through the booking form. Payment is made on the day of travel, by card or in cash.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a transfer from Sofia Airport to Chepelare?

Chepelare is quoted on request, because it is not on our standard price list. Send us the flight, the number of passengers and the ski bags, and we reply with one fixed price for the whole vehicle. You pay nothing before the day of travel.

How long does the drive from Sofia Airport to Chepelare take?

Plan on about 3 h to 3 h 30 min for roughly 220 km on a clear day. The motorway to Plovdiv is quick; the mountain road from Asenovgrad is slower, and fresh snow adds time. Our coordinator gives you a realistic estimate for your date when you book.

Can you drop us in Pamporovo instead, or stop in both places?

Yes. Pamporovo is only about 10 to 12 km further up the same road. If part of your group sleeps in Chepelare and part in Pamporovo, tell us both addresses and we include the second drop in the quote.

What happens if it snows on the way to Chepelare?

Yes. In the winter season our cars run on winter tyres, as Bulgarian rules require, and the driver adjusts speed to the road. Snow mainly makes the climb after Asenovgrad slower, so we plan the timing around the weather.

Which vehicle do we need for four skiers?

The long-base minivan. A sedan seats four, but four people with ski or snowboard bags, boot bags and suitcases need the extra space. Up to eight skiers with kit travel in the long-base minibus, still at one price for the vehicle.

When should we leave Chepelare for our flight home to the UK?

Earlier than from resorts closer to Sofia. Send us your departure flight when you book the arrival, and our coordinator suggests a hotel pickup that leaves time for the mountain road, possible snow and check-in at the airport.
