The route: Trakia motorway (A1)
Most of the trip from Sofia Airport to Stara Zagora is on the Trakia motorway (A1), the main road from Sofia east past Plovdiv towards the Black Sea coast. It is the straightest way to Stara Zagora, and on a normal day the 220 km take about 2 h 30 min. If you would like a break for coffee or something to eat, just tell the driver; there are service areas along the motorway.
